Undulation
Scott Livesey Galleries, 17/05/2023 to 10/06/2023
Undulations Camie Lyons has spent many hours exploring the beaches and tracks of the South Coast in New South Wales. As she walks, she picks up vines, rope or fallen branches and twists them into forms intuitively, letting her hands do the work. Lyons calls this practice “impromptu making”, a term that reflects her former career as a dancer. As improvisation, her process uses walking and muscle memory to begin a work that will later influence her compositions. When she returns to her studio, she works these forms and begins binding larger vines together in new compositions. She refers to these first unselfconscious forms as ‘d... Read More >

Making Meaning
Scott Livesey Galleries, 29/08/2020 to 19/09/2020
Camie Lyons' latest body of work whirled into being through the COVID lens, a weirdly new and biting contextual frame. She worked incessantly, intensely and intuitively in her home studio at a time when the rest of the world shifted gear and pivoted onto a realigned and uncomfortable angle. And, when times become uncertain, the artist often catches back the truth of what they know. To make meaning. With Lyons it was a spurring on, to work innately and interpretively, head down, searching for her reason.Finding spontaneity when working in bronze is a challenge but for this body of work, Making Meaning, Lyons was able to draw on her i... Untethered
Scott Livesey Galleries, 08/09/2018 to 29/09/2018
“Dance me through the panic ‘til I’m gathered safely in…..dance me to the end of love, dance me to the end of love.” Leonard Cohen. With thoughts of new beginnings and the wisdom of empathies, Lyon’s latest body of sculptural artworks represent a tangle and layering of elegant understandings. Her strongest, and most powerful lines hold within them the beauty of sure footedness. Others, balance between the unbearable and the lightness of being - an extension of her ever-evolving practice. Here, Lyon’s once captured, now untethered ‘metallic line’ flourishes, pulsates and twists, it is sinewy and alive with a new kind ... The Sinuous Line
Scott Livesey Galleries, 04/02/2015 to 28/02/2015
My failing body halts the quickness of speed and the gesture is slowed down further by the bumpy surface and form of the line. Mine is an organic exploration of time and space, the umbilical cord attached to my own history slowing disintegrating, drying up, leaving me with a hard cracked line. But it is these imperfections that make us ourselves, the histories and scars that make us unique and for me that is what makes us strong , enduring and beautiful … ... Read More >
