‘Light keeps shadow’ is an exhibition about the landscape in flux. Set in changing seasons, this collection depicts scenes from both the UK and South America. Locations remain personal whilst simultaneously insignificant. This allows viewers to approach the work with an open mind, enabling them to create their own connection. Wild but familiar, the images draw on our instinctive relationship with the landscape. Variation in scale creates a shift in atmosphere. Larger panoramic scenes envelope, whilst smaller portrait landscapes invite closer, more intimate, investigation.
Each painting is a window to a scene. Depth and detail draw in the viewer, engaging imagination and memory. The purpose being to create a space for personal reflection.
Although captured across continents at opposite ends of the globe, these landscapes come together naturally. Particular attention is paid to the changing effects of light, emphasising natural intricacies. These details invite us to pause and look closer, appreciating more deeply the importance of these sublime landscapes, and our essential relationship with the natural world.
